U.S. intelligence collaboration with Omar Suleiman “most successful”

Egyptian Intelligence Director Omar Suleiman a...Image via Wikipedia

Useful background notes from Wikileaks on Omar Suleiman, Egypt's new vice-president, and therefore the man constitutionally next in line to take over if President Mubarak were to step down.

Key points include:
  • Suleiman was trained early on in his career at the U.S. Special Warfare School at Fort Bragg
  • Head of Egypt's spy agency
  • Professional links with the CIA
  • Fiercely opposed to the Muslim Brotherhood

Not an American puppet, but certainly an acceptable alternative to the US when Mubarak boards that plane for Jeddah.
